Soundwave is a concept brand created around a fully customisable, flat-pack speaker system. Designed with sustainability and self-expression in mind, this speaker is delivered as an eco-friendly kit, complete with glue and all the necessary electronics. The user assembles it themselves, following a guided handbook inspired by the clean, accessible instructions used by brands like IKEA and AIAIAI. The aim is to make high-quality audio both personal and repairable.
What makes Soundwave unique is its interchangeable magnetic speaker panels. These panels allow users to personalise the look of their speaker by choosing from a variety of artist-designed covers. If the user ever gets bored of a design, they can simply swap the panels out — a simple yet powerful way to refresh a room’s style and reflect changes in personal taste. This feature highlights not only a design innovation but also how a product can evolve with its user over time.
Sustainability is at the heart of this project. With a modular build, if one part of the speaker breaks, it can be replaced rather than the entire unit being discarded. This approach helps reduce electronic waste and extends the product's lifespan — aligning with contemporary eco-friendly design values.
The speaker panels showcase artwork from both emerging and iconic artists. Collaborations feature names like Maisy Mose and imaginative inclusions such as Keith Haring, blending artistic flair with functional technology. This creates a balanced experience for users who value bold visual identity and high-performance sound.
To support the product, a detailed yet easy-to-follow handbook was designed, influenced by the visual clarity of IKEA’s manuals and the modular philosophy of AIAIAI, known for their customisable headphones. Overall, Soundwave is a product built for expression, sustainability, and lifelong adaptability.
